Stellar Legacies: When Banking Runs in the Family

Stellar Legacies

At Stellar Bank, some of the strongest connections are found not just between bankers and customers, but within our own teams — and often, within families. Across the bank, several family members and relatives have chosen to grow their careers together, a reflection of the trust, shared purpose, and community spirit that define the Stellar culture. We sat down with a few families at the bank who work alongside loved ones and relatives — those who bring their talents, dedication, and shared values into the workplace every day. Their stories reflect not only the strength of our culture, but the deep personal ties that make Stellar Bank a place where people — and families — choose to build a future.

What inspired your career in banking?

Martha: Banking is in my blood! My father was a banker for over 50 years.

Lindsey: After leaving the military, I moved back to Houston and moved in with my mom. Hurricane Harvey welcomed me home — we were flooded out of her house and ended up living with my grandparents. One morning in the kitchen, as my mom and grandpa were getting ready for work, I jokingly said to my mom, “Wouldn't it be cool if you, me, and Grandpa all worked together?” And months later, an opportunity presented itself that was a good fit.

Madelyn: I enjoyed the people I worked with, and my experience interning throughout high school and college and didn’t want to give that up, so I made a career out of it.

Dana: I started my career in banking while still in high school. I was a VOE (Vocational Office Education) student and went to school half a day and worked half a day. I’ve been in banking ever since.

How has having a family member at the company shaped your experience?

Kevin: It’s been nice to be able to talk about work with my wife and she knows the context and the people. It’s also fun to go with her to training when we can make our schedules align.

Karen: We don’t see each other very often but when we do it’s fun to grab lunch or align our schedules to volunteer or go to a training class. It’s also great to meet other coworkers in areas of the company that I normally wouldn’t have an interaction.

Madelyn: It’s been great getting to leverage my mother’s knowledge and experience in my own work. We feed off each other’s energy, ideas, and perspectives, which makes every collaboration both productive and meaningful.

How would you personally define the Stellar experience, and how have you seen it represented across different generations in banking?

Martha: It’s about strong relationships. We touch many parts of the bank and that builds community.

Lindsey: I’ve seen how my mom and grandfather shaped banking — it’s a multigenerational story.

Lane: We each serve different functions — security, community, marketing — and that crossteam trust is part of what makes Stellar unique.

Madelyn: The Stellar brand is to empower people to thrive, which is what my mom and I do each and every day, empower each other to go above and beyond.

Dana: Stellar Bank values our insights and expertise, creating an environment where we truly feel heard and supported. I’ve seen this not only in my own experience, but with my daughter as well.

Can you share a memorable moment you've experienced together at Stellar Bank?

Martha: Attending the Texas Bankers Association (TBA) convention when my dad was honored for 50 years in banking.

Lindsey: That moment was unforgettable — being there with him and our family was so meaningful. Lane: It was a special moment that showcased our family’s long history in banking.

Madelyn: I love volunteering in the community together. We recently volunteered at the Houston Food Bank and at Camp For All 2U and had so much fun getting to serve others.

What is it like working with family at the same company?

Martha: Lindsey and I will sometimes proof each other’s work or give it a quick review — just another set of eyes to make sure it looks good.

Lindsey: My mom and I are known to email and text at the same time, and then one of us will pick up the phone. We actually collaborate a lot, even though we’re in different departments.

Lane: I definitely lean into the family connection — in the best way. I use it to do some initial testing and feedback. I fully take advantage of that built-in support.

What makes you proud to be part of Stellar’s story, and what would you tell others considering a career with us?

Martha: It’s fun and fulfilling to work with people you trust and respect. Especially your own family.

Kevin: Stellar is a great place to start, build, or continue a career. The culture is what makes me proud to be a part of Stellar’s story.

Karen: Stellar has a great culture, and I was so surprised at how kind and welcoming everyone was in the beginning. I felt like I was on a different planet, I’ve never worked anywhere previously that fostered these types of relationships among coworkers.

Madelyn: Our coworkers are incredible and really embody each of our Stellar values.

Dana: I've worked with a great team here at Stellar Bank and they have been very supportive and have provided me with great job opportunities. I definitely would and have recommended others to consider a career with Stellar Bank.

Working alongside family brings a unique perspective built on trust, support, and shared goals. For these team members, being part of Stellar's story isn't just about building careers — it's about building a legacy together. When families choose to grow with us generation after generation, they reinforce what defines our culture: Stellar is a place where people invest not just their talents, but their futures.
